Power price change FAQs
In this article
If you’re a 2degrees Power customer and got an email from us about changes to your power rates, check out more helpful info here.
Why are my power rates changing?
The price you pay for electricity is made up of a few different parts, like the cost of generating the electricity you use, getting it to your home, and reading and maintaining your electricity meter. The costs we pay to electricity generators and lines companies make up a large proportion of what you pay, and these costs have continued to rise significantly over the last year.
Every year, we review all the costs of providing electricity and update our rates.
For Low Users, see “What’s happening with Low User rates?” below on why your Fixed Daily Charge rate is changing.
When are my rates changing?
Refer to the email we sent you about the rate change to find out when your new rates take effect.
What does my power bill pay for?
Visit the Electricity Authority’s website for a breakdown of the costs an average household power bill contributes to and more about electricity pricing and rates.
What’s happening with Low User rates?
After a review, the government is phasing out the Low Fixed Charge Tariff regulations to create fairer electricity prices for everyone. 2degrees is implementing the increases to the Fixed Daily Charge cap in line with the phase-out, so you’ll also see an increase to your daily charge if you’re on a Low User plan.
You can read more about the change here.
Will my discounts change?
No, any discounts you’re getting will continue to apply.
Can I change plans?
You can change between Low User and Standard plans once a year in My 2degrees.
The best plan for you will depend on your electricity usage and where you live. To learn more about your options, visit our FAQs.
From 1 April 2027, electricity retailers won’t be required to offer Low User plans. If you’re considering switching, bear in mind that this requirement is being phased out. You can read more about this change here.
