Responsible Use of AI in Recruitment and Selection at 2degrees

At 2degrees, our hiring decisions are always made by people.  Our commitment is to put people first, especially in our hiring practices. AI simply helps us work more efficiently, fairly and consistently so that we can focus on what matters most – getting to know you!

How We Use AI (and How We Don’t)

AI is integrated into our hiring process in limited, structured, and clearly defined ways to assist recruiters and hiring leaders.  We may use AI to:

  • Help write and refine job ads and position descriptions to help make them clear and inclusive.
  • Help draft or improve email communications.
  • Assist with reading CVs, pre-filling application details, and preparing a summary. This allows the team to fairly compare experience against the role. Your application will still be reviewed by a person.
  • Summarise evaluations and support with generating comments from interview scorecards, making it easier for hiring teams to review information fairly and consistently. AI assists with drafting behavioural or competency-based questions for our interviews.
  • With consent, transcribe and summarise phone or video interviews.  This allows for accurate and fair documentation.
  • Sometimes third-party tools we use may include AI features. Where that’s the case, we’ll let you know in advance.

Because AI isn’t perfect, anything it produces is always checked by a person before it’s used.

Where AI Is Never Used

To be clear about what this means for you, AI is not used for:

  • Candidate scoring or ranking
  • Automated assessments
  • Hiring or selection decisions

If we ever expand how we use AI, we’ll be upfront about it and make sure it aligns with our Responsible AI principles, privacy commitments, and employment standards.

Using AI as a Candidate

We recognise that many candidates choose to use AI tools during their job search. When used responsibly, AI can be a valuable resource for preparation and learning. AI can be helpful for:

  • Structuring or refining your CV or cover letter (as long as it reflects your real experience)
  • Practicing interview questions and building confidence
  • Researching 2degrees, the role, or the wider industry

What Matters Most: Authenticity

Our priority is to get to know you. AI should never substitute your own thinking, experiences, or voice. We want a fair process for everyone, so we don’t support:

  • Submitting unedited AI-generated content as your own
  • Reading AI-written answers verbatim in interviews
  • Using AI to impersonate yourself in any interaction
  • Using AI to complete technical or skills-based assessments without disclosure. Where this is allowed in a process, we may ask you further questions to assess your approach and decision-making.

If you’re unsure about how AI is used during your application, or may be used by you, just ask.  The Talent Acquisition team are happy to talk it through and can be reached via careers@2degrees.nz.
