Reducing notification overload

We’re helping Kiwis take control of their notifications before their notifications take control of them. From guiding young people to educating adults, we’re supporting everyone to use their phones more mindfully.

Are your notifications distracting you?

Teens receive an average of 237 daily notifications.

We think it’s unfair when phones create a lack of balance.

So we’re helping Kiwis take control of their daily notifications.

Take control of your notifications

Managing your notifications

Knowing when your Uber is pulling up or getting a calendar reminder for mums birthday is super handy! But not all apps need to send you notifications, especially when it feels like they just don't stop pinging. That’s why we’re encouraging kiwis to take control of their notifications.

Stop and think - It sounds simple, but you don’t need to automatically accept all push notifications. Stop and think, will these notifications be helpful?
Tidy up - Visit your settings and decide which alerts you really need. Keep the essentials, and dial down the rest.
Be intentional - Resisting the urge to constantly check takes practice! Remind yourself not every notification that pops up is urgent.

Tip #1

Update notification permissions

If any notifications are bugging you, just know you can always adjust them or just turn them off completely!

Tip #2

Monitor your notifications

It’s a great idea to be aware of the number of notifications you receive per day. You can easily find this in your settings.

Tip #3

Personalise your notification settings

Change your settings to suit you. Both Apple and Android have customisable Do Not Disturb settings and notification scheduling settings.

Tip #4

Create phone-free zones or times

Phones are becoming a part of everything we do, so it’s super important to be intentional about when and where we put them down.
