Can I recycle old devices and modems?
Fighting for a Fairer future
Have old electronic devices lying around? Here at 2degrees, we're making it easier for you to do the right thing with your old tech. When we say "old tech", we don't just mean old phones. You can drop off your old modems, landlines, accessories, wearables and more.
We are helping make sure that your e-waste does not go to waste either by recycling or refurbishing these devices where possible. Alongside a number of third parties who assist us with our e-waste, we also use and are a proud member of RE:MOBILE.
What types of devices can I bring?
Electronic waste includes old or unwanted devices like phones, modems, and chargers. These items often contain materials that can be harmful to the environment if not recycled of properly. We accept devices from any brand, not just ones bought from us!

- Modems and mesh units
- Mobile and landline phones
- Cables and chargers
- Tablets and pencil pro
- SD cards
- Hearables and wearables

What you need to do
Sustainability is important, but so is the security of your personal data!
When dropping off electronic waste please:
- Sign out of all your accounts / applications
- We’d also recommend doing a complete a factory reset
- All collected e-waste will then go through an external data wiping process
- Bring in any of the e-waste items listed above. We’ll let you know in store if we can't collect your device, and give it back to you
Note: If you can’t turn your old phone, our external providers will still be able to wipe your data.
Recycling and e-waste FAQs
Currently we have six participating stores, and look forward to expanding as interest continues to grow.
Current stores include:
- Newmarket
- Sylvia Park
- St Lukes
- Customhouse Quay
- New Plymouth
- Mid Queen
Note: All of our retail stores will accept mobile phones! Plus if it’s still in working order you could be eligible for a Trade In.
While we aim to accept a wide range of devices, there are a few things we’re not set up to handle just yet. These can include:
- Laptops
- Cameras
- Printers and scanners
- Batteries and powerbanks
- SIM cards
For these types of devices, your local council or a certified e-waste facility may be the best option.
Important: A swollen phone battery should be taken directly to a specialist e-waste centre for safe handling.
For 2degrees to recycle your e-waste, you need to be the legal owner of the device being handed in. You will also be responsible for removing any memory cards, SIM cards etc and erasing all data on your device. A factory reset is a good way to do this. Even though our external providers will do their own data wipe, this makes sure that any important information stays safe!
Through our partnerships, your device is carefully assessed and either refurbished for reuse or sustainably recycled where possible. This process has already keep hundreds of phones and devices out of landfills. Learn more about our plan for a fairer future here.
