Industry: Information and Communication Technology

Problem: Coordinating more than 1,600 users transitioning to the 2degrees network, while minimising disruption.

Solution: A structured migration approach, enabled by 2degrees Flex, with flexible scheduling, real-time collaboration tools, and end-to-end ownership of provisioning and logistics.

Outcome: A smooth, frictionless transition at scale, onto a modern network designed with enterprise fleets in mind. Scale

Datacom wanted a strategic long-term mobile partner, with confidence the solution could scale over 3–5 years and beyond.

Datacom is one of New Zealand’s largest IT services providers, with more than 6,000 employees working throughout Australasia. With such a distributed and highly mobile workforce, staying reliably connected is critical to how the business operates.

The challenge was managing a large-scale migration of mobile services to a new provider – more than 1,600 phone number transfers and SIM card swaps – without disrupting day-to-day work or impacting connectivity for staff. To do this successfully, Datacom needed a solution that could handle the scale and complexity of the rollout, while maintaining accuracy, control, and a seamless experience for users. Support also needed to be available to handle change requests during the transfer process.

How Flex made the difference

Real-time provisioning at scale

Flex, 2degrees’ proprietary platform, enables real-time, automated provisioning at scale, with enhanced self-service and reporting. Number porting was often completed in 3-5 minutes – and in some cases, even faster.

One-stop shop, complete visibility

Buckley describes Flex as a one-stop shop that can manage and track a large number of the company’s services – improving visibility across the Mobile fleet, reducing administrative complexity and supporting long-term scalability.

Robust under significant demand

“Flex held up under impressively large volumes of requests,” says Buckley. The platform managed more than 1,600 phone number transfers and SIM card swaps while accommodating last-minute changes – without disrupting day-to-day work or impacting connectivity for staff.

Secure, modern, and seamless

“We wanted confidence that the platform was secure, modern, and seamless,” says Buckley. Flex supported users consistently, even in remote locations – no dropped connections, no lost numbers.

Backed by a great network

End users demand a robust national Mobile network, and 2degrees’ network is designed to deliver.

Results

Transition activity ran over three months: 1,600 numbers ported and almost 300 change requests managed – rescheduling, physical SIM to eSIM conversions, and user and address updates. Throughout, 2degrees led the scheduling of new connections in batches while remaining responsive to real-time change requests through Flex.

“2degrees combined professionalism with an approachable, team-oriented mindset, ensuring Datacom employees felt supported throughout the migration. The result was not just a successful transition, but a partnership that prioritised user experience, operational simplicity, and long-term value,” says Buckley.
